![]() ![]() ![]() This year’s beer selection is probably very similar to last year’s selection, with perhaps some changes. Being something of a collector/hoarder of beer related items, I would really like to get my hands on these as well! The beer gift boxes are also interesting, especially the Kölsch gift box! Once into their website, I was intrigued by the German and Austrian versions of the Advent calendar, which has only a few beers in common with what is listed on the American calendar. I was very interested to see what else Original Kalea produces – the packaging is very nice and they have been doing this now for a few years. We were stopped several times by people asking where we found the boxes (I ended up buying several others as gifts) and they were amazed that they walked right by them at the front entrance. We made a lot of new friends during that visit to Costco. Sure enough, on our first visit on September 11, we walked in, showed our membership card, and immediately to the right of the entrance was a full display of this year’s Original Kalea Advent Brewing calendar on sale for the low price of $59.99!Ģ021 Kalea Brewer’s Advent Calendar – our timing this year was perfect! ![]() I told my wife that I was planning on visiting the local Costco every week beginning around mid-September to be sure I didn’t miss out this year. Figuring I was much too late and missed out, I vowed to not miss out this year. I was also seeing his postings on Untappd for these beers and asked him where he was finding them, admitting I was jealous that I wasn’t able to try those beers.Īfter he told me about the Brewer’s Advent calendar he picked up, I went to Costco and was unable to find one in stock. My neighbor had picked one up at his local Costco (not our local Costco – he works out of state for the time being and found one there). ![]() The first I heard about the Brewer’s Advent Calendar was in early December last year. I may be mis-remembering, but I also seem to recall reading about somebody who was improvising a beer Advent Calendar while they were visiting family in Germany – the he was trying to sample as a different beer each day, choosing from the wide variety of local German brewers that he had not or could not find product from in the United States. I ran across this article and thought the idea of improvising a Beer Advent calendar, with a different beer every day for 24 days, was an intriguing idea. I first found out that Advent Beer calendars existed – as an idea if not an actual pre-packaged item for sale – when I was researching German Christmas beers, or Weihnachtsbier. Wait – did I just type ‘beer’? How in the world did I miss this?!! There are also Advent calendars geared for adults, with things like, teas, coffees, chocolates, beer and hot sauces being available. Usually geared for children, they have spots to be opened once every day during advent – or at least between December 1 and Christmas Eve – and toys, candy or other treats are available. I have seen them over the years but have never really found – or looked for them in the states. Something I didn’t even know existed at this time last year became a purchase I was determined to make this year – a Brewer’s Advent Calendar.Īdvent calendars are a big thing in Europe. ![]()
